In my previous blog, we talked about Self–Love. This time we will discuss Self-Confidence.
Self-confidence is simply believing in your abilities. It is backing yourself and not allowing negative words and opinions to deter you from your goals. These opinions could be your own or somebody else’s.
Most people struggle with low self-confidence because they do not practice enough self-love. To improve your self-confidence, all you need is to learn the difference between positive and negative criticism.
Negative criticism includes any and every comment that intends to show you how you were wrong. It does nothing to help you learn and grow. All it does is demotivate you. This is where self-love comes in. You shouldn't allow such criticism to discourage you from following your dreams.
On the other hand, positive criticism is one that allows you to identify your mistakes, (cause let’s be real, not a single person in this world is perfect!) and encourages you to find alternative solutions. I think by now, most of us know that we can be our worst enemy. Usually, we do this by harshly criticizing ourselves for every small mistake.
The trick here is to practice positively criticizing ourselves. How do we do that? Start by acknowledging your achievements even if it is as small as getting out of bed. Follow it up by recognizing the areas you would like to improve. And make an action plan to achieve that.
However, one thing you must remember is not to compare yourself with anyone else.
When you learn to critique yourself healthily, you become comfortable with your flaws, and you learn to love yourself just the way you are. Additionally, you’ll be able to notice the improvements within yourself and further enhance your belief in your progress. It will also enable you to accept other people’s critique positively instead of using it as a tool to demotivate yourself.
One of the best habits you can cultivate is self-discipline because there may be days when you just don’t feel motivated, and there may be no one around to motivate you either. At this point, self-discipline will get you through, so learn to be there for yourself and push yourself whenever necessary.
One more way to achieve your goals is visualization. For this, you need to see yourself as the best version of the person you want to become. For example, if you want to buy a yellow car, you will automatically start noticing more yellow cars. The same concept can be used to achieve your goals. If your dream is to become the best dancer, believe that you already are. And, your mindset will adapt so that you will naturally start taking more steps to achieve that goal.

The thing that holds most people back from trying new things is the nerves and the fear of failure. But from my personal experience, one thing I can say for sure is that it is okay to be nervous. That simply shows that you are human. Unfortunately, just like every other human on this planet ;)

What you can do to overcome the nervousness is to find some mini exercises that help you calm down. It could be anything from a nice bath or a conversation with your loved one. Through this technique, I have reached a point in my life where even though I am nervous, nobody will be able to notice. And remember, your best weapon is always going to be with you which is your SMILE!
Even though it is a long process, when you master the art of differentiating between healthy and unhealthy critiques, learn to maintain self-discipline, and understand how to overcome your nerves, self-confidence will come naturally to you!
