Motivation is the very key that enables us to function well in our day to day lives. It is the ability to drive yourself to take initiatives to achieve the goals you set out for yourself. It is the ability to follow through on any positive change you want to make in your life without giving up. I am sure, just like me, many of you may also find it hard to stay consistent. It could be any goal, big or small. It could be something as simple as waking up early every day or as complicated as achieving stressful deadlines in your professional life. Consistency is difficult for most. It is completely normal, but it can be changed. Sure, it is not going to be a simple task, but it is achievable. As Said by Lyn Christian, “Self-motivation requires you to believe in yourself, stay inspired, and keep going on despite setbacks.” For this to happen, you need to have passion and perseverance to achieve the goal. The ability to follow through on any positive change you want to make in your life without giving up is a very important life skill.
Some of the ways you can stay motivated include:
Define your "Why?"
Understand why you want to achieve that specific goal because this will help you stay focused. Your "why?" is going to be your biggest motivator. On your lowest days, this is the factor that will push you to get the required work done because you have understood the importance of your goals and dreams. Having an end goal in mind will keep you moving ahead. You may still not achieve all your goals, however, it will not be because of lack of motivation.

Accept setbacks
Do not get frustrated because you could not achieve your goal or because there are setbacks and diversions to your original plan. Learn to break down your goals into smaller ones, making it seem like you are climbing a ladder to reach your destination. Also, it is okay for things to be put on hold for a bit. By accepting these setbacks, managing the stress and emotional turmoil associated with that goal will be a lot easier. Believe in yourself and your capabilities, the belief will keep you going.
Choose the quality of the people in your life wisely
The people you choose to have in your life influence your focus and motivation. Ensure that the people in your life encourage you to work on your desired goals. It is always comforting to have a support system that has your back, that can be your rock. Friends and family usually fill this role as they are the ones closest to you.
Help others and receive help
Do not hesitate to ask for help from people who may have accomplished similar goals. Their experience can guide you, and their support will motivate you even further. Joining a community for similar activities can also be very helpful and enjoyable. For example, if your goal is to become a hiker, then you can join a group that hikes every weekend. When you are having fun, you will be naturally motivated to keep doing that activity again and again. And, as we all know, practice makes perfect! On the other hand, helping others will also make you realize just how far you have come since you started, and this can be a great motivator as well.

Focus on the positives and celebrate your wins
When you are evaluating yourself, it is easy to see the shortcomings and forget all about the achievements. And this can kill your self-motivation. Therefore, remember to recognize your accomplishments, no matter how small they may be. Celebrate them with your support system. These celebrations will add more fuel to your tank which will be useful in the future. Do not beat yourself for your mistakes, but instead, remember to learn from them.
Also remember you will not achieve your goals overnight. Everything takes time, especially making positive changes in your life.
